What issues in the community do you care most about, and how does it motivate you?
I support my church and other charities that help those less fortunate and provide opportunities that might otherwise not be available.

Treat others as you would like to be treated.
What makes you get up in the morning, and how does it impact your work style?
Working out or walking in the neighborhood first thing in the morning really helps get my day started.
What is your proudest professional moment, and why?
I am proud of helping the employees I supervise grow in their careers and be successful. These results make the long hours and years of service all worthwhile.
Jim Rizzo, CPA, has over 30 years of tax experience and currently resides in GHJ’s New York market hub. Jim’s proactive approach, deep industry knowledge and expertise in corporate income taxes and ASC 740 support his clients in making informed decisions that drive their financial success. By developing tailored tax strategies that align with clients’ business goals, Jim helps clients reduce their tax liabilities and navigate complex regulatory environments.
Prior to joining GHJ in 2024, Jim worked for a publicly traded diversified energy company for more than a decade, where he was the Vice President of Tax. Jim also served six years as the Director of Tax at a publicly traded medical device company. Before that role, he spent 10 years in a management capacity working at a Big Four firm in its tax department.
Jim is a recipient of the Tax Executives Institute’s Service Recognition Award for his dedication and leadership within the organization. Jim has also served as Chair and on panels at the American Gas Association’s Taxation Committee meetings. He has been a featured speaker with the University at Buffalo School of Management and New York Society of CPAs’ Annual Tax Institute.
He is currently a member of the State University of New York (SUNY) at Buffalo Accounting Advisory Council. Jim is also member of the New York Society of CPAs’ Buffalo Chapter, where he has served as Vice President, Treasurer, Taxation Committee Chair and Annual Tax Institute Chair. Other previous roles include President, Vice President, Treasurer and Buffalo-Niagara Chapter Representative of the Tax Executives Institute.
Jim graduated from SUNY at Buffalo, where he received a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration with a concentration in Accounting, as well as a Graduate Tax Certificate.
