GHJ’s Audit and Assurance Partner Yulia Murzaeva’s passion for audit quality advocacy is taking on a new meaning as she steps into a position on the AICPA’s Governmental Audit Quality Center Executive Committee.
Over the next 12 months, Yulia will intimately support the AICPA’s global mission by contributing to member engagement and sharing peer insights from the profession and local marketplace. This volunteer-based service offers a meaningful opportunity to apply experience and perspective while collaborating with fellow accounting professionals.
After a rigorous process to evaluate candidates, the AICPA chose Yulia and 19 other individuals to participate in the committee this year.
ABOUT YULIA MURZAEVA
Yulia, CPA, is GHJ’s Northern California Market Leader, a role in which she leads a team that delivers personalized local support across the Bay Area. Yulia also oversees the implementation of new accounting and auditing standards, as well as audit quality and efficiency initiatives, in her role as the Firm’s audit quality control lead.
In 2022, she spent several months working at the AICPA Governmental Audit Quality Center, where she concentrated on advocacy for regulatory and audit quality issues. She, in this role, also served as the AICPA’s subject-matter expert on governmental and single audit accounting matters, including working with senior representatives from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.
THE AICPA GOVERNMENTAL AUDIT QUALITY CENTER EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE
The Executive Committee is responsible for advocating on behalf of matters relating to audits performed under Government Auditing Standards, Uniform Guidance and other compliance audits. The group advises and assists with the development of AICPA products and services regarding compliance and other governmental audits. Further, the committee is tasked with establishing general policies for the Audit Quality Center and overseeing ongoing activities.
