GHJ is once again sponsoring the CalCPA Not-for-Profit Conference. Nonprofit Tax Principal Lauren Haverlock will be a featured speaker, and Nonprofit Partner and Practice Leader Donella Wilson is co-chairing the event.
About the Event
The 2016 CalCPA Not-for-Profit Conference will be held on May 24 in Burbank and May 25 in San Francisco. The conference is designed by industry and public accounting experts and, in addition to a current accounting and tax update, will hit on hot topics such as Uniform Guidance and effective controls for Federal awards, compensation issues, private foundations and endowments, Board governance, complex gifts and expense allocation and overhead.
Topics to be Covered by Lauren Haverlock
At the conference, Lauren will be speaking on Advanced Tax Issues and will cover topics such as unrelated business income, lobbying/political activities, fundraising and multistate filings. Lauren has over eleven years of experience in public accounting and specialized in exempt organizations with over $100 million in assets to smaller startup entities for the last eight years of her career. In addition to compliance work, Lauren consults on unrelated business income, reasonable compensation studies, governance, private inurement, public support tests, foreign reporting requirements and the formation of tax-exempt organizations. Lauren also regularly teaches Form 990 and 990PF courses for the AICPA and other prominent state societies and has co-authored the private foundations tax course for the AICPA in 2013.
About Co-Chair Donella Wilson
Additionally, Donella has been a member of the planning committee for the CalCPA’s Annual Not-for-Profit Conference since 2010 and has served as the co-chair of the event for the past two years. She is the partner leading GHJ’ Nonprofit Practice and has over 18 years of public accounting experience providing audit, accounting and special project services. Donella also co-chairs the Firm’s quarterly nonprofit educational workshops and annual conferences and is the nonprofit training coordinator for GHJ University. She is a frequent guest lecturer and conference speaker on nonprofit financial management and governance issues, and as an adjunct professor, she has taught Nonprofit Financial Management at USC’s School of Public Policy, Planning and Development.
