Motion Picture and Television Industry: Accounting and Auditing Overview

On October 2nd, Steven Sills, Partner at GHJ, will be instructing a course on accounting and auditing in the motion picture and television industry in conjunction with the CalCPA Education Foundation.

From production budgeting and GAAP to profit participations, this course will provide you with essential current information. CPAs working in the entertainment industry must be skilled in specific audit and accounting practices. Understand how the various areas of entertainment accounting impact each other.

Objectives of the course include:

  • Understand the motion picture budgeting and production process
  • Learn how to apply the capitalization and amortization of film costs—SOP 00-2, Accounting by Producers or Distributors of Films
  • Analyze the components of motion picture distribution, including revenue and expenses
  • Gain a basic knowledge of participation audits, settlements and litigation
