GHJ Partner Discusses How Remote Employees Affect Taxation

GHJ State and Local Tax Practice Leader Frances Ellington appeared on the Accountable podcast to discuss what companies should know about multi-state taxation.

The episode focuses on what employers should know when their employees start working from home (especially when that home is located in a different state from the office). Over the past two years, this has become a common issue for companies located near a state line and as employers hire more fully remote workers.

In addition to income taxes, Frances and Accountable Host David Peters discuss what companies should know about multi-state taxation. They talk about nexus ─ or when a state has the authority to charge tax on a company regardless of where they are physically located. This is a common concern for online retailers who make sales all over the country and must pay attention to nexus rules that differ from state to state, especially in a post-Wayfair world.
